The quote is from Big Smoke in GTA San Andres, a character that is a homie but then built his own empire and turns his back on the main character, this quote kinda predicts how things turn out in the end of the game.

This quote hits hard, especially in this time of my life – I have too many things to reflect and found that this quote turns out to be true. All the things that made me laugh now no longer give me the joy that it used to do, all i feel now when looking at it is the memory of how fun it used to be which no longer attainable. It's not the thing that is special, but all the people and emotions that associated with it at the time. In that pure moment, i truly find happiness – I was present and didn't have to worry about anything else, just living in the moment.

And the fact that it was there will never change, it's only accessible through memory but no longer attainable is what makes us miss it the most. Even if everything was like before, you wouldn't feel the same as what it used to be, now is now – you have to create your own unique moment that bring happiness, if this moment is not fully lived then you will have nothing else to remember in the future, that's why living in the present is very important.
